Our unit is committed to a process of Sustainable Development and Social Responsibility (SDSR) in order to act in an increasingly responsible and ethical manner, respecting the environment and people's well-being.
To better understand and reduce the impact of our research activities on the environment, it is essential to estimate their carbon footprint. We have established a greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions balance sheet for our organisation and identified our sources of CO₂ emissions in 2023.
Purchases account for the majority (74%) of our GHG emissions (40% for laboratory equipment and instruments and 45% for consumables). This impact of purchases is also observed at the national level (85% of CNRS GHG emissions in 2022). To encourage us to think about the relevance of purchases, we are implementing a decision tree. We include the cost of the warranty in the equipment purchase budget and favour reuse or repair.
In conjunction with our institute's UMR7242, we are making progress in an eco-responsible approach, encouraging the sorting and recycling of certain plastic consumables and personal protective equipment with the financial support of the University of Strasbourg (‘DDRS Mission’).
